An Interview with Aaron Gillespie

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

The Almost

We had a special guest at Skull Church last night. If you miss it, well, you missed out.

We had The Almost out for service and they totally rocked the house. It was, for lack of better words, incredibly fantastic. For me, what I loved most is the heart that Aaron has for the lost. It was so awesome to sit in on the interview and hear about the transformation his heart has gone through over the past couple years, and more recently the past few months.

They did some of the songs off of their albums, but they ended with their version of “Amazing Grace”, with Hillsongs, “With Everything” tagged on to the end. Talk about revival in hearts! It was so good. People loved hearing them play, but it was more awesome to see how they got the crowd to really participate and join in on worship. Like I said before, “so good.”

Check out the interview!

Check out their myspace.

I’ll post a video as soon as I can.

To whom it may concern,
Wavorly was recently at Skull Church (as in last night) and they did an amazing job. I spent all day listening to their music and was so pleased with their style. FYI (for your information) I really enjoy listening to their stuff.

I’m not here to talk about how much I enjoy Wavorly’s music. Instead I am here to share an interview that Josh did with them before service. It’s pretty cool, so check it out.

Listen to the interview here.

We had the pleasure of talking to Seabird last week when they were out here for Skull Church, which, by the way, they did an amazing job at. Devan did the interview and they talked about all sorts of things like Montana, music (obviously), tours, Haiti, as well as other fantastic things. I think you might find it quite enjoyable. I know I did.

An Interview with Spoken

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Spoken

Matt Baird, from Spoken, had an opportunity to come up to the station and record an interview with me after Skull Church last night. Speaking of Skull Church, it was an awesome night. The band did great and they were definitely a lot of fun.

Here are some interesting things about the band. Spoken has made six albums on multiple record labels in their 14 year career and guess what, there’s another album on the way. We talk about all sorts of stuff in this interview including secret myspace accounts, creating an album and music and band as a ministry.

An Interview With Greg Laurie

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

One week ago we were blessed to have pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie out here for Skull Church. Pastor Levi did a short interview with him on the radio and it came to my attention that some of you may have missed it when it aired that day. So, I am posting it here for all of you to see… err… hear.

Johnny Rodger from The Myriad

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Johnny Rodger

How do you make an already amazing night like Skull Church even more amazing? There are multiple correct answers to that question, however, the easiest of them would be by simply factoring in Greg Laurie and the band The Myriad.

Having Greg Laurie out was awesome, but this blog is not about him. That is a blog all in itself. This blog is about the Myriad and that’s how I intend for it to stay.

Now, to the matter at hand. When I was in college I had a friend who is smarter than I think I’ll ever be. His name is Daniel and he isn’t the “geeky” kind of smart. Daniel is the book, super genius kind of smart. He was always reading some book of the classics that was way beyond my reading level (which I tend to think is above average, thank you very much). (I have always been the kind of person that loves to buy books but only get’s halfway through before I buy and start a new one.) Daniel was a history major at the time, and that in itself has to qualify someone for being some kind of smart. He enjoys music of old and I’m sure some sort of music of new. His facebook picture was always some kind of abstract image of himself. “Well rounded” is what I would call Daniel. All of this is still somewhat beside the point.

Recently there has been a trend on facebook where everyone has been changing their profile picture to be one of their doppelganger. A doppelganger is some who looks ghostly like yourself. Your twin look alike who isn’t really your twin.

It was exactly one week ago that I walked into the Liberty Theater and saw Johnny Rodger, the bass player from The Myriad. I immediately texted one of my college friends and said, “I am looking at Daniel Vildasol’s twin!” He obviously was not his twin, but when I had the opportunity to interview him up in the radio station, the similarities in their personalities where uncanny. Johnny and I talked about the band, touring, mainstream music versus the Christian music industry, and in addition to all of that, we talked about God, struggles in life, and even books, authors, and thinkers of great.

I’ve learned that every interview is different, each band is different, and every interview is fun in its own way. With each person I speak to, I find some sort of inspiration or practicallity from them, whether it’s from Kristian Stanfill showing me what it looks like to truly pour your heart into worship and glorifying God, or Poema taking me on the journey of getting that “big break” and becoming practically famous in what seems to be over night while all the time just being normal teenagers. With The Myriad interview I found myself challeneged to grab one of those books sitting on my bookshelf and finally finish reading it. Maybe I’ll start with J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye or C.S. Lewis’ The Problem of Pain. Some times it’s nice just to turn up some music, whether it be Bach or Beck, just pick something that makes it easy for you to relax and take some time to do something other than stare at a screen reading my blog. Take the time to look at and listen to beautiful things, because like Johnny said, if you trust in God he will open doors for people, for the gospel.

I really want to encourage you to listen to the interview if you have a chance. It’s not too long and the content on which we spoke is so relevant especially to our stations unique selection of music.

Also, before I go, I want to ask you guys to be continually praying for The Myriad’s drummer, Randy. He’s a great man of God and is fighting cancer. So, continue to keep him, his family and friends in your prayers, as I know I will.

An Interview with Poema

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

elle sings

Yet another excellent Skull Church took place on Wednesday night. Between the great songs the worship band played, the decisions made for Christ, and an awesome concert from Poem, the night was filled with more delight and fun than a barrel of monkeys.

All of this is wonderful, but what is even more exciting is that I was able to take some time to sit down with the girls from Poema and talk about things like how they made it big, the excitement of producing an album and what they do in their spare time.

You can listen to the interview here.

Kristian Stanfill

Friday, December 18th, 2009

If you like great worship, fun people and awesome things then you would undoubtably love Kristian Stanfill and his Atlanta, Georgia based band. We had the amazing opportunity to have them out here for Skull Church last night, and if you missed it, you are not going to want to miss out on the video footage taken. To make an amazing story short and less exciting, I am just going to sum things up for you. They came out and played an amazing set. They had so much fun and I’m sure that everyone who got to watch or hang out with them would absolutely reciprocate those feelings. After service, they played an extended worship set (which was amazing) and even did an email contest. The contest prize was one of the best I’ve seen in a while. It included an autographed cd by the band and a personalized song that was sung to them at the end of  the night. (Congrats to Kathryn who won!)

After service, hanging out with people, and building a snowman out of pens and peanut m&m’s, I had the opportunity to interview Kristian and Tim up in the radio station. If I could summarize the experience into just a sentence or two, I’d say that there was about twenty minutes of great interview and about thirty of  uproarious, knee-slapping laughter. They were so much fun that it was outrageous. We talked about things like leading people into worship, Passion Conferences, and at one point Kristian broke out into U2’s song “One” then further started quoting Buddy the Elf in from the movie “Elf”. Funny stuff was happening. If you want to check out the interview I’ll post a link at the bottom of this page.

On a more serious note, I’d say that the overall feeling I got from both of them throughout the duration of the interview was that they were so in love with the Lord. Everything they talked about was not of them, it was not for them, it was not for their glory, but that it was solely for the glory of the Lord. It was so much fun to see two friends who were having such a blast living to worship God. It was so inspirational, so exciting and such a blessing. It was so awesome to see their heart in and for worship. You could tell that they really poured everything in them into their worship and that overflowed in their life. They were full of energy and excitement and in general just a lot of fun.

Like I said before, if you didn’t get to catch the interview or the service you should check out freshliferadio.com and skullchurch.com.

Check out Kristian Stanfill and the band at their myspace, or check out their newest record, “Attention”, with sixstepsrecords. You’re sure to love it.
